Harborside comments and a question
    All,

We just got back from 6 days at Harborside. We rented a unit (3702/3703) from an owner off of redweek but couldn't arrive until Sunday due to a Saturday night event. That being said, 6 days was the right amount of time for this group, and we loved it. We really liked being in Building 7 because it made the proximity to the shuttle so convenient.

Atlantis is a fantastic property. Very very unique, especially in the timeshare world. The ability to access from a timeshare is incredible. My kids loved the waterpark and the beach right off property which has beautiful water and (unsanctioned) watersports. The only time we went off property was when we went to the dolphin encounter that leaves from the Paradise Island ferry landing, and highly recommend it.

We enjoyed the Marina Village as well, both for shopping and for restaurants. We ate at Bimini Road and at Johnny Rockets, and couldn't get into Carmine's or Starfire Steakhouse as the reservation timeslots were too late for us.

The final pleasant surprise is that we liked the Battle 4 Atlantis basketball tournament. We even went to a game (Oklahoma-Butler) and made some new Oklahoma friends whose son plays for the team. I now have an NCAA team to root for.

I'm sure we will return and I will now start to study the StarOptions availability like a hawk. I've already been impressed by the ability to book in early to mid June and now I'm curious to see what availability will be over Thanksgiving and over future Spring Breaks. I'm not optimistic about Spring Break availability, but thread-searching suggests that Thanksgiving may be possible. The weather for us was spectacular for the first three days, and then it cooled down (to low 70s) for Thurs/Friday.

The unit at Harborside was in reasonably good condition. The living/dining/kitchen were in very good kitchen, the master bath was a little beat up. It reminded me of Marriott Aruba Ocean Club, where the living space was fine, but the bathroom needed help. Not sure if that's a Caribbean thing, or normal aging of a property.

Am I correct that Phase I are all fixed weeks and Phase II are the floating weeks? I seem to remember there is some special rule that a week defaults to a fixed, but can float?

Also, are there many of the 2BR non-lockoffs? From looking at the unit maps, it appears most of the 2BRs are lock-offs? Thanks!

    All the best,

    Greg

Edited: I found this from Jarta

    Quote:

The older phase, Phase I, was sold almost exclusively as fixed week units. Building 2 looks out to the pool. Buildings 1 and 7 look out over the marina toward the Royal Tower, the Casino and the Marketplace. Building 7 is closest to the shuttle stop and the front desk. No building at HRA is more than a 5-7 minute walk from the shuttle stop.

The newer phase, Phase II, was sold almost exclusively as float week units. The views in Phase II are mostly promendade views (between the buildings) but there are a scattering of water (sound, not beach) views. None of the HRA units have beach or ocean views. HRA is not about views; it is about activities.
